Asset Library Overview

What you'll learn in this guide

Find your way to the Asset Library, understand the difference between template-specific and shared assets, and get a clear picture of what you can upload to use in your communications.

Overview

The Asset Library is where the images and resources for your communications live. Logos, hero images, icons, banners, attachments — anything you want to drop into a template gets uploaded here first, then referenced from your content.

It sits inside each Application, so the assets you upload stay scoped to the Application you're working in. That keeps your library tidy and means you're not scrolling past every image your team has ever uploaded just to find the one you need.

You'll also get to choose whether an asset is available to a single template or shared across all templates in the Application — useful for things like logos and brand imagery you want to reuse everywhere.

‍

You'll need a Template first
‍
The Asset Library lives inside a Template, so you'll need at least one Template set up in your Application before you can access it. If you haven't created a Template yet, head to the Templates tab and add one first.

‍

Access the Asset Library

Once you've got a Template open, the Asset Library is only a couple of clicks away.

  1. Open the Application you're working in, then click the Templates tab.
  2. Open the Template you want to work with.
  3. Click the Images / Resources tab at the top of the Template editor.

That's it — you're in. From here you can upload new files, preview what's already there, and pick which ones to drop into your content.

‍

Template-only or shared across the Application?

Once you're in the Asset Library, you'll see two sub-tabs. Each one points to a different bucket of files, and knowing the difference saves you uploading the same logo five times.

  • ‍This channel / template only — assets uploaded here are unique to the template you're currently in. If you've got multiple templates for a channel (say, a couple of different web or online versions), each one keeps its own set of files. Handy for one-off imagery that only belongs to a specific send.
  • ‍All channels / templates (shared) — assets uploaded here are available to every template in the Application, across all channels (Email, Online, Unsubscribe, and so on). This is where your logos, brand imagery, and any other reusable resources should live.

‍

Quick rule of thumb
‍
If you'll only ever use the file in one template, upload it to This channel / template only. If it's something you'll reach for across multiple templates, upload it to All channels / templates (shared).

‍

What you can upload

The Asset Library handles both images for your content and other resources you might want to attach or link to. Here's a quick rundown of what's supported.

Type What it covers
Images The everyday formats you'll use across email and online templates:
  • PNG — best for logos, icons, and anything with transparency.
  • JPG / JPEG — best for photography and hero imagery where file size matters.
  • GIF — useful when you need a simple animation in an email.
Documents PDF files you want to attach to a send or link to from your content — things like terms and conditions, statements, brochures, or supporting information.
Other resources Supporting files referenced by your templates, such as fonts or other assets your design needs to render correctly. Anything you upload here can be referenced from your template content using its file path.

‍

Keep file sizes sensible
‍
Large images slow down email rendering and can push you over inbox size limits. For most images, resize and compress before uploading — 600 pixels wide is plenty for most email hero images.

‍

What's next

Now that you know your way around the Asset Library, you might want to:

  • Upload your first set of shared brand assets (logos, header imagery) so they're ready to use across every template.
  • Head back to the Content tab and drop your assets into a template.
  • Review your other Template settings under the Settings tab to make sure everything's configured the way you want.

Each of those has its own guide in the knowledge base if you need a hand.
