Overview
Sending Rules are where you decide when your Application is allowed to send. They sit alongside the rest of your Application configuration and give you control over the timing of every message that goes out — without having to schedule each campaign manually.
For most teams, this is about respecting recipient preferences and business hours. You might not want statements landing in inboxes at 2am on a Sunday, or marketing offers going out the moment a weekend starts. Sending Rules let you set those guardrails once, and the platform takes care of the rest.
You'll find Sending Rules inside your Application settings. Each Application has its own rules, so a transactional Application can run 24/7 while a customer comms Application sticks to weekday business hours.
Quick tip
If you're not sure what's right for your Application, start with weekday-only sending and a sensible business-hours window. You can always loosen the rules later once you've seen how recipients engage.
Configure your Sending Rules
Open the Application you want to update, then head to the Details tab section where Sending Rules sit. You'll see four settings that work together to define your sending window.
- Tick Automatically send if you want the Application to send messages as soon as they're ready, within the rules you set below. Leave it unticked if you'd rather hold messages for manual release.
- Tick Send on weekends if Saturday and Sunday sends are fine. Untick it to limit sending to weekdays only.
- Tick Restrict sending hours if you want to confine sends to a specific time window each day. Skip this one to allow sending at any hour.
- If you ticked Restrict sending hours, set your window using the Send between date picker fields. Pick a start time on the left and an end time on the right.
- Check the Timezone shown beneath the time fields. All your rules run against this timezone, so it's worth a quick sanity check before you save.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Details page and click Save to apply your rules.
That's it — your Application will now follow the sending rules you've set. Any messages queued outside the allowed window will hold until the next valid send time, so nothing gets lost.
