Rename a Template

What you'll learn in this guide

A quick walkthrough of how to rename any version of a template — whether it's still a draft, the version you're actively sending with, or one filed away in your previous versions.

Overview

Template names are how you and your team know what each version is for at a glance. As your library grows or your communications evolve, you'll often want to tidy up names — maybe to follow a new naming convention, fix a typo, or make a draft easier to spot among similar versions.

Renaming is an in-place change. The content, channel settings, and version history all stay exactly as they were — only the label changes. You can rename templates across all three sections of the Templates page: Drafts, Current version, and Previous versions.

Heads up
Renaming a template doesn't create a new version or affect any sends already in flight. It's purely a label change, so feel free to rename without worrying about side effects.

‍

Rename a template

  1. Open your Application and click the Templates tab.
  2. Find the version you want to rename — it can sit under Drafts, Current version, or Previous versions.
  3. Click the Actions button on the right-hand side of that version.
  4. Select Rename from the dropdown menu.
  5. In the Rename template modal window, type your new name into the New name field.
  6. Click Rename to save your changes, or Cancel if you've changed your mind.

‍

That's it — your template version will show its new name in the list straight away. The content, channel settings, and version history are all untouched, so there's nothing else to do.

What's next

If you're tidying up your template library, it's a good moment to check whether any old drafts can be deleted or copied into a fresh starting point. Both options live in the same Actions menu, so you can knock them out in one pass.
