Create a New Application

What you'll learn in this guide

Learn how to create a new Application in the Send module. We'll walk you through each step, explain what to enter along the way, and flag a few things to keep in mind so you set things up right the first time.

Overview

Creating a new Application is the first step whenever you want to set up a new type of communication in CX Platform, whether that's a welcome email series, a monthly statement, an SMS alert, or anything in between. Each Application becomes its own central workspace, where you'll configure everything from data fields and templates through to channels and security settings.

The good news: getting one started only takes a couple of minutes. The setup wizard keeps things simple by asking for just the essentials up front, so you can get into the detailed configuration once the Application exists.

Before you start

It's worth knowing a couple of things before you create your first Application:

  • ‍Categories need to exist first. When you create an Application, you'll be asked to assign it to a Category. Categories are set up separately in the Send module settings, so make sure the right Category is in place before you begin (or check with your administrator if you're not sure).
  • ‍Categories do more than just organise. The Category you choose controls how this Application appears in your Archive, how it's filtered in reports, and which users have access to it through Role Based Access Controls. It's worth picking the right one from the start.

Create a new Application

Once you're ready to go, here's how to set up a new Application:

  1. From the secondary navigation menu, click Applications to open the list view of all existing Applications.
  2. Click Add New to open the create new Application settings.
  3. Enter an Application Name. Pick something descriptive that makes the Application easy to identify later — for example, "Monthly Statement — Email" or "Welcome SMS — New Members."
  4. Select a Category from the dropdown. This determines how the Application is grouped for archiving, reporting, and access purposes (see the note above on why this matters).

Once you've entered both, your new Application is ready to go. From there, you can move into each of the configuration sections — Details, Fields, Templates, Callbacks, Channel selection, Gateway settings, and Security / data retention — to set everything up the way you need it.

‍

Tip on Naming Conventions
‍
Naming Applications consistently across your team makes life much easier down the track. A simple convention — like "[Communication type] — [Channel]" or "[Department] — [Purpose]" — makes Applications easy to spot in long lists, especially as your library of communications grows.

‍

What's next

With your Application created, the next step is configuring its sections. Each one builds on the last, so working through them in order is a good approach:

  • Details — confirm the core information about your Application.
  • Fields — define the data structure that will power your personalised communications.
  • Templates — design the email or SMS content recipients will see.
  • Channel selection — choose how communications are delivered and set your failover rules.
  • Gateway settings — override the company defaults if this Application needs its own sending configuration.
  • Security / data retention — add authentication factors if recipients need to verify their identity to view content.
  • Callbacks — set up real-time event notifications to your other systems if needed.
    ‍

Each section has its own guide if you'd like to dig deeper.
