Overview
As your library of communications grows, you'll often want to spin up new Applications based on existing ones, or tidy up by removing Applications that are no longer in use. CX Platform makes both straightforward — copy gives you a head start by duplicating an existing setup, while delete clears out anything you don't need anymore.
Both actions live in the same spot: the bottom of the Details tab inside the Application you want to work with.
Copy an Application
Copying is a great shortcut when you're setting up something similar to an Application you've already built. Instead of starting from scratch, you can duplicate the existing setup and tweak it to suit the new use case.
- From the secondary navigation, click Applications to view the list of all available Applications.
- Open the Application you want to copy. You can either double-click the highlighted Application or click the Settings icon on the right-hand side of the list view.
- Click the Details tab in the Application settings.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Details page, where you'll find the Copy button.
- Click Copy. You'll be prompted to enter a New Application Name and select a Category.
- Click Save to create your duplicated Application.
What gets copied across
When you copy an Application, all templates, data field mapping, and configuration settings are duplicated and added to the new Application. The one thing to watch out for is integration settings, like custom API codes — these need to be reconfigured specifically for the new Application.
Tip
Copying is also a good way to test changes safely. If you want to try out a new template design or tweak some settings without affecting a live Application, copy it first and experiment on the duplicate.
Delete an Application
If you've got an Application that's no longer being used, deleting it keeps your list tidy and easier to navigate. Just be aware that this is a permanent action — once an Application is deleted, it can't be brought back.
- From the secondary navigation, click Applications to view the list of all available Applications.
- Open the Application you want to delete. You can either double-click the highlighted Application or click the Settings icon on the right-hand side of the list view.
- Click the Details tab in the Application settings.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Details page, where you'll find the Delete button.
- Click Delete. You'll be prompted to enter the Application Name in full as a safeguard against accidental deletion.
- A modal confirmation will appear. Once you've entered the Application name and clicked Delete, a final confirmation prompt will appear.
- Click Delete to remove the Application, or click Cancel if you've changed your mind.
Heads up — this can't be undone
Deleting an Application is permanent. Once it's gone, the templates, field mappings, and configuration settings inside it can't be recovered. If there's any chance you might want it back, consider copying it first or simply leaving it in place until you're certain.
Which one should you use?
A quick rule of thumb if you're not sure which action fits your situation:
- Copy when you want to reuse an existing setup as the starting point for something new — the original stays in place.
- Delete when an Application is no longer needed and you're confident it won't be used again.
If you're tempted to delete just to "clean things up," consider whether the Application might be referenced in archived correspondence, an automation that is live or historical reporting first.
