Overview
Templates aren't something you want to edit on the fly. The version sitting under Current version is the one your Application uses every time it sends, so any change you make to it goes live straight away.
That's where Copy to new draft comes in. It takes an existing version — either your current one or an older one from Previous versions — and creates a fresh draft you can work on. You can edit, preview, and refine it without disturbing what's already in flight, then publish it when you're ready.
It's also handy when you want to revisit an earlier version. If Version 1 had a layout you'd like to bring back, you can copy it to a new draft and pick up where it left off.
When to reach for this
Anytime you need to change a template that's already live. Copy first, edit the draft, then publish — your live version keeps working while you work.
Copy a version to a new draft
- Open the Application that contains the template you want to copy, then click the Templates tab.
- Find the version you want to copy. You can pick from Current version or any entry under Previous versions.
- Click the Actions button on the right-hand side of that version, then select Copy to new draft from the dropdown.
- In the Copy to new draft window, enter a New version description. This is required, and it's what you'll see listed against the draft, so make it something you'll recognise later.
- Click Copy to create the draft, or Cancel if you've changed your mind.
That's it — your new draft will now appear under Drafts at the top of the Templates page, ready for you to open and edit. The version you copied from stays exactly as it was.
What happens next
From the Drafts area, you can open your new draft and make whatever changes you need — content updates, layout tweaks, new personalisation, whatever the template needs. Once you're happy with how it looks and you've previewed it, you can publish the draft to make it the new Current version.
And don't worry about losing your old version. When a new version is published, the previous one moves into Previous versions automatically, so you've always got a way back if you need it.
