Overview
Basic Settings is the first card you'll see on the Details tab of any Application. It's where the fundamentals live — the name, the category it belongs to, and a couple of switches that change how the Application behaves day to day.
It's a small section, but the choices you make here ripple through the rest of the platform. The Name is what you and your team will see in lists, reports, and access controls. The Category determines where the Application shows up in archives and reporting filters. And the toggles let you tidy up retired Applications or turn on document attachments without touching the wider configuration.
You'll come back here whenever you need to rename an Application, move it into a different category, archive it, or enable document attachments for sends.
Open the Basic Settings card
- In the secondary navigation menu, click Applications to view a list of all available Applications.
- Double click the auto highlighted Application, or click the Settings icon on the right of the list view.
- Click the Details tab. The Basic Settings card sits at the top of the page.
What each setting does
Here's a quick rundown of every field in the Basic Settings card and what it controls.
| Setting |
What it does |
| Id |
A unique number that CX Platform assigns to your Application when it's first created. You can't change it — it's read-only — but it's worth knowing where to find it.
The Id is how the platform references your Application behind the scenes, so it's the value you'll quote when raising support tickets, configuring API calls, or troubleshooting integrations.
|
| Name |
The display name for your Application. This is what you and your team will see across CX Platform — in the Applications list, reports, dashboards, archives, and access control settings.
You can rename an Application at any time without affecting the Id or any of its underlying configuration. Pick something descriptive so it's easy to spot at a glance, especially as your Application library grows.
|
| Category |
The Category your Application belongs to. Categories are set up in Send module settings and group related Applications together for three important reasons:
- Archive — Categories determine how communications are grouped and surfaced in the archive.
- Report filters — you can slice reporting by Category to compare like for like.
- Role Based Access Controls — permissions are applied at the Category level, so the Category you pick controls who can see and work with this Application.
If the Category you need isn't in the list yet, ask your administrator to add it before assigning your Application.
|
| Archive/Hide application |
A checkbox that archives the Application without deleting it. When it's ticked, the Application stays in the list view so you can find it later, but it won't appear in reports or data lists.
Handy for retired Applications you want to keep on record without cluttering up your active reporting. To bring an archived Application back, just untick the box and save.
|
| Enable "Add document" |
Controls whether this Application is available as a destination when using the Upload document ad hoc feature. This allows a document to be manually uploaded and attached to an existing communication record outside of the standard send process. There are three options:
- Disabled — the Application won't appear as an option in the Upload document feature.
- Archive Only — the uploaded document is stored against the record in the Archive but isn't sent to the recipient. Useful when you need a paper trail without delivering the file.
- Send — the document is uploaded and delivered to the recipient as part of the communication.
Note: this setting was previously labelled "Add document" in earlier versions of the platform.

Quick Tip
Categories aren't just an organisational nicety — they drive who can access this Application and how it appears in reports. If you're not sure which Category to choose, double-check with whoever manages your access controls before saving.
